New Mexico in Focus: Episode 328 January 29, 2010 The 2010 legislative session is in full swing in Santa Fe, and Rep. Rick Miera recently introduced House Bill 150: The Hispanic Education Act. A main purpose of this Act is "to provide for the study, development and implementation of educational systems that affect the educational success of Hispanic students to close the achievement gap and increase graduation rates." Joining NMiF Correspondent Peter St. Cyr to discuss the proposed bill with its sponsor is Dr. Jose Armas of the Latino/Hispano Education Improvement Task Force and Ellen Bernstein, President of the Albuquerque Teachers Federation. Also at the table this week: the upcoming Albuquerque Public Schools bond vote. NMiF Correspondent Tracy Dingmann discusses the bond issue with the director of the APS Capital Master Plan and with two guests who have different opinions on how the vote should play out.
