T. Boone Pickens in Albuquerque

Billionaire oilman T. Boone Pickens picked Albuquerque to host one of his first Town Halls to discuss his plan to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. The event was held on Wednesday, September 10th, and KNME was there to catch all of the action. Click here to find out more about his energy plans, and then watch what he has to say below.

One humorous point to note when watching the video: Lt. Governor Diane Denish introduced T. Boone at the event. Listen when he thanks her as he refers to her as Governor. The audience's reaction to the gaffe is also pretty funny!

If the oil was not forsale to us we would be "CLOSED", "OUT OF BUSINESS" as a Nation. What part of that do we as citizens not understand. I am 66, female, divorced, high school graduate, Soutern, Mother of two grown Sons. Even I know what that means and even I know that the cost of our looking the other way is higher than the cost of building more Energy Station (NG stations) God bless you and your Wife. Thank You

Fleck- Blow'en in the Pickens Wind

I read John Fleck's "Pickens Right on Wind Power Wrong on Natural Gas" Journal article with a great curd of salt. As typical of most writers of wind power, he seems to avoid to rocking the sail boat, so he writes with tongue in cheek. John, if you would ever get off your laurels and do the proper research you would find that the reason wind farms are going up is due to the heavy subsidization and renewable mandates. Pickens is a free market man like the snake oil man is a doctor, you forgot the main prognosis, greed and money!

Pickens would get subsidized for 80% of his investments while making a 20% profit. Most oil companies only realize a 8% profit after the great reaper (IRS) harvests' it share. But without the subsidies and tax breaks, along with greenie renewable mandates, the Pickens Plan would fall flat on it's propellers as Boone has admitted in a past interview, "bottom line is profit motivated"-son.

In windy Denmark, where wind is king, the Danes have stop subsidizing wind when the taxpayers realized the promises of harvesting free power were mostly hype in the wind. They pay the highest rates for their electricity while having to dump most of their wind on the European grid, at a substantial lost, as the power is generated when they can't use it. They are then forced to supplement their power from the mainland consisting of hydo, nuclear and coal. And that's the trouble with wind is it's so intermittent and generated at non peak times that without efficient storage you might as well be blowing your money in the wind. Every bit of wind power has to be backed up with some sort of more conventional power (which usually is gas turbine generators, part II of the plan) that sits as Spinning Reserve, so called because the generating equipment sits spinning idlely, waiting for the next big droop of wind output while consuming precious fuel. And then there's the noise and environmental problems that's a whole different bag of worms.

Want the rest of the story with flesh on the skeleton that Fleck threw at us, go to www.wind-watch.org and www.windaction.org to see what Ol Fleck, science wiz kid, left off about wind energy. The free market won't support it, only government mandates and taxpayer gouging subsidies will. It's an investor, 'energy subprime' scam that will once again leave taxpayers and consumers holding the bag, only this time it will be the color of green wash!
