With the New Year Comes a New Season
The KNME staff is still buzzing about last month’s visit from Marc Samels, executive producer of THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, and John Maggio, who produced this season's premiere episode "Billy the Kid." It was great to meet all of you who turned out in the frigid weather to see a sneak preview of the episode and participate in panel discussions that featured UNM’s Paul Hutton, best-selling author Hampton Sides, and historian & musician Mark Gardner.
We learned that history is still alive in New Mexico. Many who attended the events in Albuquerque and Santa Fe shared stories about our state’s most infamous citizen—from discovering that Billy is known to the far reaches of the globe, to family anecdotes about the outlaw. We even met a man named William Bonney at the Albuquerque event.
"Billy the Kid" kicks off THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE's month-long look at the myth and reality of the Wild West with new episodes on Billy and Custer's last stand, and encores of "Wyatt Earp," "Geronimo," "Annie Oakley" and "Jesse James."
With the New Year comes a new season on PBS. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW begins its 16th season on January 2 with a visit to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the most valuable appraisal in the series' history. MASTERPIECE CLASSIC presents seven new episodes in the saga of "Downton Abbey" beginning January 8. And Bill Moyers returns to public television on January 15 with MOYERS & COMPANY, a weekly hour of compelling and vital conversations about life and the state of American democracy, featuring some of the best thinkers of our time.
KNME also expands its local production schedule with CONNECT, a monthly series looking at how the research at the University of New Mexico is addressing some of big questions of our time—not only in science and medicine, but also in politics, the law and the humanities. KNME is pairing this series with FIELD TRIP!, a production of KRWG/Las Cruces, that reports on the agricultural industry in New Mexico.
As we look forward to 2012, we wish you a very happy new year. Thank you for your continuing support of KNME New Mexico PBS.
